Rachel Reade - Founder & Architectural Technologist
Solent Architecture was formed by Rachel Reade in 2020. Rachel has over 15 years of experience as an architectural designer across many sectors. During this time, she came to realise that she preferred to work mainly on very individual projects. These include one-off new build houses, or extensions & conversions where she can deliver significant improvements to existing domestic properties.
As interesting and rewarding as larger projects often are, she finds more enjoyment in working with clients to develop their homes - providing the space and home they previously didn’t think they could achieve.
Meetings with clients, therefore, form an essential and important ingredient in the success of a project. We will ask about their families and lifestyles to get a deeper understanding of what the alterations need to achieve and how best they can be delivered. We balance inspired and imaginative design with a practical approach around the choice of materials and ways to ensure value for money while maintaining a high-quality outcome.

& Healthcare
Working on Education and Healthcare projects with Bond Bryan and BDP until 2010. Projects included the Joseph Rowntree School (a £29 Million new-build construction of a large secondary school near York) and the new hospital building at Bristol Southmead, one of the most environmentally friendly hospitals of its size in the country.
Leisure
Residential
Working with HNW Architects in Chichester on multiple industrial, residential and leisure projects including Horsham Fire Station in West Sussex, a complex of 135 residential apartments across 3 buildings in Pelham Street in Brighton, and an 8-storey residential building in Acklam Street in London for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Infrastructure
Residential
Working at DarntonB3, on residential and infrastructure projects using modular design and modern methods of construction. Examples of commissions undertaken under very challenging time and budget constraints included The Foundry student accommodation in Newcastle, infrastructure projects for the Ministry of Defence, and work on Hinkley Point C site in west Somerset.
Retail
Industrial
Rachael spent 2010–2014: Worked in a small family-run architectural practice, focusing on retail and industrial projects for major high street brands including Tesco, Primark and Marks & Spencer. We used Building Information Modelling (BIM) to produce detailed 3D visualisations, allowing clients to assess both the technical specifications and operational functionality of their spaces before construction.
